Free Software!!!

by Jeff Blankenburg 22. February 2008 11:06
As I hope you'll recall, we had some Visual Studio 2008 Install Fests late last fall. These events sold out in under 48 hours. We gave away 525 disks that could be redeemed for a full version of VS2008 Professional.

I've just heard back from the organization that was running this effort for us, and there's been a surprisingly LOW redemption rate. This is just a friendly reminder to everyone that has a Trial disc and has not gone online to redeem it for their full version.

THAT OFFER EXPIRES ON MONDAY, FEBRUARY 25, 2008!

Please make sure you get yours in. I'd hate to see you miss out on this offer.

Kevin,

Thanks for the words, but I just received my disc.  I assume they shipped mine along with yours.  I can't answer why, but at least I got it.

I have a feeling most people do not know that they have to redeem their trial versions.  I didn't know until I happened to check your blog today!    I thought the full version was going to be mailed when available.

Glad I checked!!

No John, you've got it right.  There was a code and a website on the back of each trial disc.  You should be receiving your full copy in the mail very shortly (if you haven't already).

It comes in a cardboard envelope with the serial number and everything.

Kevin,

I can tell you that I submitted my code soon after they first opened the web site and they still haven't shipped my copy.  I sent an e-mail to them to confirm they were going to send it.

So in honest truth, who knows?  It has already been over 6 weeks for me.

Well, question answered. I submitted my code on the last day available (2/25) and I just received my DVD today (3/6). Can't wait to install it! John, sorry to hear you didn't receive one after 6+ weeks. Hopefully Jeff can help.

Hi Jeff,
I didn't know about the expiration date to redeem the full version until I saw your post about it. So I went and filled mine out on the last day - Feb. 25. Do you happen to know if it will still take 4-6 weeks to ship? Or will it ship sooner since they've already started sending them out? Thanks.

Just so you know, you can also get a free version of VS 2008 by attending the Heroes Happen Here launch events.

Wait a minute, now I'm really confused.  When I went to the website, I filled in my little pin number and address and thought that was all there was to it.  I have not yet received my disc.  Craig, are you saying you only receive the disc if you also upgraded a trial version?  I didn't want to install and upgrade the trial version, I just want the disc.  The websites seemed to imply I did everything necessary.
