Tony Sims is a Principal Datacenter Technology Specialist in Microsoft’s Heartland District responsible for helping customers understand how Microsoft can help them transform their Datacenter and leverage the value of cloud computing (Private, Hybrid and Public). Prior taking on this role at Microsoft, Tony was a Consulting System Engineer with Cisco’s Unified Computing System (UCS) Architecture Team covering the United States and Canada focused on helping customers deploy Microsoft Technologies on UCS with specific focus on Windows Server/Hyper-V, System Center and Exchange. Prior to Cisco, Tony was a Principal Technology Strategist with Microsoft for over 11 years helping customers, primarily Healthcare, in Kentucky utilize the Microsoft platform to improve their businesses and employees.
In addition to his civilian employment, Tony is a Colonel in the Kentucky Army National Guard currently assigned as the J6/CIO in Frankfort, KY. Tony has over 27 years in both the Active Army and National Guard who has taken part in combat operations during Operation Desert Storm in 1991, as an advisor to the Iraqi Army in Baghdad during Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2007-2008 and relief operations in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. Tony is a graduate of the Army’s Command and General Staff College, Basic and Advanced Field Artillery Officer Courses and both the Airborne and Air Assault schools. Among his commendations include the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal and numerous other US and foreign awards.
In his free time, Tony enjoys spending time with his three daughters Hannah (13), Rebecca (11) and Olivia (6). His hobbies include technology (of course), competitive pistol and rifle shooting, kayaking, and hiking. He currently resides in Louisville, KY and is a 1989 graduate of Murray State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in History and a minor in Military Science
